Permeability and Improving Your Cosmetics

Packaging protects the contents from physical damage, contamination and water.  For many products the last two of these control the quality and shelf life of any contents.  Water can also severely affect physical strength. Versaperm's latest equipment is designed to quantify the effect by precisely measuring the packaging's all important water vapour (and other) permeability.  This gives manufacturers the key they need to improve packaging and improve the preservation of a pack's contents.

Using the latest Versaperm range, measuring how contaminants permeate the packaging has become a lot easier, not just with respect to water vapour (hugely the world's most damaging contaminant), but also for oxygen, nitrogen, CO2, hydrocarbons and almost all other gases and vapours.

Vapour permeability is the main controlling factor for an enormous range of products and processes - from why cornflakes go soggy through to how fast drugs loose potency.  It causes paper to jam in printers and has even made missiles crash! Additionally it is the critical factor in a packaging's printability and the mechanical handling of paper and films.

Versaperm's permeability meter is fast and reliable - producing results that are accurate in the parts per million range, (parts per billion in some cases).  For some packaging designs this can take as little as 30 minutes.  It can optionally control temperature, pressure and other important factors.

A very wide range of variations and cutting-edge sensors is available, depending on the specific application.  Multi-chamber systems allow measurements to be produced on several samples at the same time and different designs and clamping systems cater for numerous sample types.

As well as manufacturing the instruments, Versaperm offers a technical consultancy plus a permeability testing service for companies that need to test samples on an irregular basis.
